How does ozone work?
Ozone (O3) is a highly reactive gas composed of three oxygen atoms. In nature it occurs in the Earth’s atmosphere, where it is formed naturally through the interaction of solar ultraviolet radiation with molecular oxygen (O2).
Ozone has a very high oxidation potential, therefore it is commonly used to disinfect laundry and water, to kill bacteria on food or on contact surfaces and to deodorize air and objects, such as after a fire. This process is extensively used in fabric restoration.
Ozone tends to rapidly turn back into oxygen without any traces or chemical residues, nor does it leave bed smell or stains on fabric.
Ozone can penetrate into fabric fibers, it does not damage fabric and surfaces, which makes it ideal to sanitize or deodorize objects that would be difficult or impossible to wash such as helmets, stuffed animals, leather bags and so on.
How does Trevi-san work?
The cabinet recreates the natural cycle of ozone that takes place in the atmosphere.
Step 1
A lamp emitting a 200 nm wavelength radiation generates ozone from the oxygen that is naturally contained in the air in the cabinet.
Step 2
In this phase a forced ventilation is activated in the cabinet, which distributes ozone evenly. Ozone thus is able to reach all the garments or objects contained in the cabinet and exert its deodorizing and sanitizing action.
Step 3
A second lamp, emitting a 254 nm wavelength radiation accelerate the natural reconversion of ozone into oxygen.
Step 4
When the ozone level in the cabinet has dropped, the door is unlocked and the operator can remove the content of the cabinet, completely sanitized and deodorized.
Ozone sanitizing is an environmentally friendly process which does not leave chemical residues or bad smell.
